Let’s come together now to revive
the marine world we love!

Takashi Kajikawa
Chairman
Japan Boating Industry Association (JBIA)

I would like to begin by offering our sincere condolences to all the victims of March’s Great
East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.
The Japan Boating Industry Association, organizer of Japan’s largest marine event, the
Japan International Boat Show, is an association of manufactures and marketers of
motorboats, sailboats, marine engines, personal watercraft and other related marine
products. In response to the March disaster, our organization has taken positive steps to
speed the recovery of the fisheries industry in the stricken regions by repairing damaged
boats and increasing production of fishing boats and engines for rapid delivery where they
are needed most. However, the repercussions of the disaster have continued to distance
people from the sea and hinder the recovery of the marine leisure industry.
No one can deny that at times the sea can be a frightening threat. On the other hand, it is the
same sea that provides a livelihood for many people and leisure recreation and soothing
relaxation for many others. What we must do now, I believe, is to learn with diligence the
lessons of the sea’s and nature’s awesome forces and work to spread proper understanding
of them. By working to remove fears based on misinformation and lack of experience, we
can help restore an enriching coexistence with the sea and revive marine leisure and the
rewarding joys it can bring to so many.
In its 51st holding in 2012, the Japan International Boat Show will feature exhibits at the
main indoor venue at Pacifico Yokohama and a floating exhibit venue for large-class
cruisers and yachts at Yokohama Bayside Marina, as well as a large number of experiential
boating and sailing events. We have planned this boat show with the aim of giving as many
people as possible the opportunity to “see, ride and enjoy” the latest marine products and to
“learn about the sea through experiential encounters.”
We hope all of you involved in the many aspects of the marine leisure industry around the
country will join us as exhibitors at the Japan International Boat Show 2012 and help
inspire Japan again, from the sea.
