[Shipments of boats]

The history of the boat shipments in the total number shows (including domestic shipments and exports): 26,184 in 2006 that was 92% of the previous year, and 26,038 in 2007 that was 99% of the previous year.
Those in the total shipment value shows: 25.6 billion yen in 2006 that was 123% of the previous year, and 28.3 billion yen in 2007 that was 111% of the previous year. Although the number of shipments was flat in 2007, the total shipment value increased successively for two years, while the unit prices increased from 977,000 yen to 1,088,000 yen that was 111% of the previous year.
As for the domestic shipments of motorboats in the total number (including exports) by type of engines, the outboard engine type boats decreased in 2006; however, it increased significantly in 2007 exceeding both the previous year and the year before last. As for the shipments of motorboat in the total number (total of domestic shipments and exports) by length, the small boats below 5m marked 109% of the previous year, the medium boats of 5m to 8m marked 98% of the previous year, and the large boats over 8m marked 94% of the previous year, which increased significantly in the previous year.
On the other hand, the total shipment value of boats showed an increasing trend. This increasing trend is due to the fact that the small boats exceeded the previous year, and the imported boats over 15m increased (from 4 in the previous year to 15).

[Shipments of marine engines]

The number of shipments of domestic marine engines including outboard engines and PWC (including exports) was 660,596 in 2007 and 600,313 in 2006 that was 110% of the previous year, while the total value marked 106% of the previous year. Among these, the number of shipments for export was 111% of the previous year, while the total value marked 109% of the previous year.
The number of domestic shipments (including imports) was 27,102 in 2007 and 28,102 in 2006 that was 96% of the previous year, while the total value marked 86% of the previous year.
[JBIA activities-Improvement of pleasure boating market]

The “Japan International Boat Show 2007 in Yokohama”, which was held at “Pacifico Yokohama” in Minato Mirai area in March 2007, changing the site from “Makuhari Messe”, was successful with total visitors of 46,000 that increased 25% over the previous year. On the other hand, the “Mini-boat Festival 2007”, which was held at “Museum of Maritime Science” in Tokyo Odaiba area in October, attracted total visitors of 1,000. Most visitors were firstcomers, and many people enjoyed experience-based orientation cruising on a mini-boat.
The “Marine Station” (Umi-no-eki) counts 100, where visitors by boat and yacht have been on the rise.
Thus, the people who are interested in marine sports and the potential demand seem to be in good condition.
Users of the portable boats, including mini-boats below 3.33m, have increased in recent years; however, not only slopes for launching the boats, but also affordable storage and berth, such as efficiency storage facility, are still insufficient. The “Ground Design for Promoting Use of Boats” proposes the importance to develop these infrastructures, but the practice is running late. To create new demands, it is important to ensure affordable storages by using unused slopes and fishery harbors.
On the other hand, it has been three years since the “FRP Boat Recycle Project” started in 2005 along with increasing demands for the global environment protection, and a nationwide system was established, which spreads over Hokkaido to Okinawa. The total number of boats recycled in these three years exceeds 1,500, and this project has been well known widely by boat users.
In 2008 and later, we will focus our priority on the activities related to the safety and relief, including safety enlightening activities for the users of mini-boats that have grown up to a certain scale of market, promotion of buying pleasure boat/PWC insurance, “Declaration of Wearing Lifejacket” campaign, etc.
